Harriet M

Riding Director

Harriet B Morton is a long-time horsewoman. She started interacting with horses when she was 4 and got her first pony when she was 8. She was fortunate to live in the country on an old farm. A few college students kept their horses there and taught her about riding and horses. Thus, her love of horses was born.

Harriet taught lessons, trained and showed horses and worked at camps during her high school and college years. She attended veterinary college for almost 3 years before deciding she wanted to work with horses and kid’s full time. Harriet started her own riding, boarding and training business when she was 25. 8 years later, she and her parents and husband moved the business to 42 acres in Abbeville, SC. They cleared and built pastures, barns and rings.

In 2018, Harriet “retired” from the horse business. The farm was sold, Harriet and her husband moved to Brevard, NC in 2021, where she focuses on her art business and volunteering for several organizations. Harriet has 2 daughters. Her oldest daughter is in the horse business and manages a stable in Aiken, SC. Her younger daughter is studying to be an equine vet tech.

Harriet’s professional equine experiences span over three and a half decades and include:

  • volunteering in the 4-H Horse Program
  • studying Linda Tellington Jones’s Touch
  • certifying as a CHA Master Instructor
  • directing the riding program at Camp Illahee for 5 yrs
  • certifying as a mental skills coach with Daniel Stewart
  • becoming an Equine Gestalt Method Practitioner

Harriet believes horses play the greatest role as teacher and healers. She makes sure riders understand that horses are part of the team, not just an animal to ride. She considers learning about horses and horsemanship just as important, if not more, than riding.

Camper Cargo

Greetings TAW family! I'm Dani from Cali, Colombia and this is my second summer at camp. I am very excited to be back again! I've been an English teacher for a few years and one of my passions is to learn from kids daily and take pictures (so if you see me at camp please smile). My favorite things at camp are exploring, walking, and creating amazing memories with not only my lifetime friends but also with campers. A fun fact about me is that I love to do Zumba at the top of the mountains. Can't wait to meet you all!

Hi Ton-A-Wandah family! My name is Meagan and I’m from Fort Mill, South Carolina. This will be my 15th or 16th summer at camp. I was a camper and counselor for years in the 90s and early 2000s and came back last summer as head staff. I will be at camp during first session. When I am not at camp I am a teacher who loves reading and Disney. My favorite part about camp is the friendships that are built and last a lifetime. A fun fact about me is that my sister is also a member of head staff during first session! I can’t wait to be back at Ton-A-Wandah!!!

I recently graduated from Marketing, but I have a huge interest in photography. I enjoy working out, reading, and dancing. Important to know... I love going to concerts, festivals, and DJ sets! My favorite music genres are house and progressive house :) My favorite part of camp is definitely chatting with the girls and their stories, as well as the amazing views that camp offers every day!

Hello everyone, I'm Beth from Glasgow, Scotland and this will be my 2nd summer here at Camp Ton-A-Wandah. I graduated from college last year with a qualification in Healthcare practice and hoping to attend University next year to fulfil my dream of becoming a paramedic, It has always been my dream to help others in need. I'm currently still at home with my parents and dogs Bute and new puppy Olive. I work at the American company Topgolf here in Glasgow and absolutely love the atmosphere it brings to all the players and playmakers. My favrouite part of camp is the evening programmes, I love when all the camp comes together and get to enjoy a EP and having fun, laughing with each other after a long day doing activities. I also love when myself and campers try to catch fireflies on the walk back to our cabins after EP or when it gets dark at camp. I find it pretty magical as we don't have fireflies here in Scotland. A fun fact about me is that I am a pretty good baker and love to bake in my free time for my family and friends. I can't wait to meet everyone and have another unforgettable summer at camp.

Hello everyone! I am Jenifer from Bogotá, Colombia and this is my 5th year at TAW. I graduated from Universidad Distrital FJDC back at home with a degree in English Teaching and a postgraduated program in Human Development. I have always lived in the city where I was born and raised and I couldn't love more this place. I enjoy doing different kinds of things in my city: indoor climbing, concerts, museums, theaters, playing soccer, visiting parks with my dog, etc. My favorite events at camp are probably the team ones. A fun fact about me is that I have a fake-twin at camp. (She truly is my sister but, even though we look alike, we're 16 months apart.) Your goal for the summer will be to find out who's the old/little one and how old we are. See you soon.

Katie A

Katie A

Waterfront Director Second Session

Hi, I am Katie. I currently live in Columbia, SC. This will be my second year at camp as the Waterfront Director. I previously was a camper for 5 years and volunteered with Camp Merry Times for 3 years after graduate school. I am a doctor of physical therapy and work remotely as a clinical reviewer. I have 2 girls, 1 boy, 2 german shepherd dogs, and a cat. My girls both attend TAW; my oldest will be spending her 7th summer at camp and my youngest will be spending her 3rd summer at camp. My son will be spending his 3rd summer at Camp Rockmont for boys at the same time. My favorite part about camp is watching the girls grow into themselves. The pressures of school, sports, boys, and feeling the need to be perfect are all released while at camp. These girls get to learn who they are and what they like. I really love watching the quiet ones blossom out of being wall flowers to laughing with new friends, while the louder, more wild ones learn to harness that power into becoming leaders.

Fun Fact about me…my husband is a meteorologist in the Air Force and I was kind of a roaming gypsy before I met him. I have lived in Michigan, Florida, Australia, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Alaska, back to Florida, back to Georgia, Mississippi, and South Carolina. We are awaiting orders for our next move, which should be coming any day now and could result in me getting back from camp and immediately packing our house to move.
